Help!

I am a 21 year old female. 5'4'', 129 lbs. I eat a low fat diet and exercise daily, but I am on loestrin FE. Yesterday I noticed a feeling of stiffness in my ear and jaw that has continued through today. Is this indicative of a serious problem? Should I go to the ER?

Hello there,

Jaw stiffness is a side affect of Loestrin FE. If this stiffness is bothering you I would visit your GP. All the best Trish

Unless you have a family history, it is not terribly likely that this is a stroke, although BCPs do raise your risk.  More likely you are having trouble with a wisdom tooth if you still have any, or a stiff neck from late nights of studying or sleeping in odd positions.  Or it might be your sinuses or another dental problem.

I personally do not like BCPs for birth control because of the hormones.  See if your doctor thinks a plain copper IUD is good for you.  The only problem I had was heavy periods for six months or so.  If that's already an issue, then it wouldn't be the easiest choice for you.  But I only had to pay a copay for this.  Much cheaper and safer for me.
