Neurological (MS?)

My wife has a recurring symptom of a sudden muscle spasm in her right leg that causes her to lose her balance or at least have trouble standing upright.  This passes very quickly (usually less than 10 seconds).  She is alert when this happens and can talk through it although she really looks like she is focusing intently on what is happening to her.  If asked to "stand up straight" she will respond that she is trying but cannot.
She claims that she does not feel dizzy or disoriented when this happens.
I have noticed that these episodes are more frequent if she has a headache.
They are also much more frequent if she is wakened after a very short period of sleep (like when I wake her to go to bed if she falls asleep on the couch).
She has had an MRI and seen both an ENT and neurologist but has received no diagnosis.  Has anyone seen anything like this?

sounds like it could be definitely neurological. i am having lots of dizziness and numbness myself. i have a friend with ms. the dr's are looking for that as well in me. usually there is something thats sets off her symtoms. she can not be around strong scents like paint. i can not stand to get too hot. try to remember what she may or may not have been around lately. please get a second or even third opinion. its always worth it.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Was this the MRI of the lumbo-sacaral spine. If yes, then pinched nerve is ruled out. If no, then this should be done. The other possibility is restless leg syndrome which is a sleep disorder. The third possibility is DVT or deep vein thrombosis. At times it is also due to low sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium in the body. Hence serum levels of these electrolytes should also be checked.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
