Lip/tongue tingling and taste changes

I noticed an odd taste while eating dinner a couple of hours ago, and it has progressed to numbness/tingling in my lips, mostly lower and inner, and the tip of my tounge. What it reminds me of is if you have ever accidently sprayed perfume or some other chemical in your face. Food tastes difference, and my lips feel strange when I run my tongue over them, like a chemical stinging.

Possible important background: No new medications today
I had an EGD 3 days ago (to check for celiac disease)- no complications known
No new foods (was drinking a coke "icee" when I noticed the strange flavor/feeling)
I have TMJ and clinch/grind my teeth and wear a night guard (could this be a nerve/neurological issue?)
No new make-up/lipstick/etc.

Treatment: I took 25mg of Benadryl about 20 minutes ago- no changes yet

I am open to any other ideas or thoughts! Thanks!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The numbness and tingling could be due to your wisdom tooth. Impacted wisdom tooth can cause TMJ and numbness and tingling of tongue. It could also be related to neck-tongue syndrome. There is upper nuchal (neck) or occipital pain on one side, with or without numbness in these areas. This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. . Do discuss this with your doctor (both dentist and orthopedic specialist) and get yourself examined.  Take care!

Thank you for your reply. The sensations went away in about a day and a half, and I don't really know why. I think it may have been related to the grinding/jaw (TMJ) issues because I had not been wearing my nightguard and I started wearing it again. Thank you again!
