Liver enzymes

My (ALT) liver enzymes was at 54 two years ago. That Dr. said it was a fatty liver. I had not been to a Dr. since, until this month. This Dr. did a blood draw and my (ALT) is now at a 91. I am over weight by about 65lbs , 38yrs, 5'2". I was drinking once a week or so with family and friends in the last 6yrs and of course eat bad food. Before 32yrs. I didn't drink. What could cause this? My Dr. now has scheduled me for CT scan.

Artificial sweeteners are very bad for you. I don't know if that could be the cause. My endocrinologist diagnosed me and my sister with insulin resistance. Elevated liver enzymes can be caused by this condition. You need to have this checked, especially if your mom has this condition. Not everyone suffers from the same symptoms. I don't have elevated liver enzymes but my sister does. We also believe my mom has this condition because she is obese and can't loose weight, high blood pressure with elevated cholesterol. Having a family member with this condition makes it more likely you will get this condition as well. It is possibly hereditary. The researchers believe this condition is likely to have genetic markers.
You should go to an endocrinologist and have this looked into.

My mother is very over weight. About 150lbs over. And she said she has not had this happen. My mother, however, was diagnosed with insulin resistance a few years ago. The other thing I was thinking about is about 6yrs ago or so, my old boss was a health fit fanatic and he kept telling me to quit consuming splenda. He said that would enlarge the liver and harden it. I didn't listen. I have been eating TONS of splenda now for about 11yrs. amongst occasional other sweeteners. Now, I can't help but wonder if he was right. I do realize that I do need to loose weight again and keep it off this time, but still wonder.

Your weight and diet cause this condition. You need to put yourself on a strict diet. This means complex carbs only, no sugars and moderate to low fat (good fat only) if you want to get better. Drink a lot of water, no sodas or caffeine. Your health depends on what you decide to put in your mouth. I know this because my sister to is over weight and suffers from elevated liver enzymes. She went on a strict diet and it helped her condition and to loose weight. Her liver enzymes at times were very high (over 300). She was later diagnosed with insulin resistance.
