Urethral discharge and stinging, but tests all negative.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am a 29 year old heterosexual male from the U.K.

I had a sexual encounter 2 months ago and I have had the following symptoms from around this time: clear urethral discharge (minimal but still present), stinging at tip of penis and just inside urethra, stinging when passing urine. I received unprotected oral sex, but did not have penetrative sex. There was however, unclothed sexual contact (foreplay) in which the genitals may have come into contact.

I have had two separate examinations in which urine and swab tests were carried out (for chlamydia, gon, urethritis). On both occasions they came back negative. I also had blood tests (for HSV, HIV and syphilis), these also came back negative. I have taken a two week course of doxycycline and a week of metronidazole (not at the same time). My symptoms neither improved, nor subsided with these antibiotics.

I am very anxious about both what is causing this symptoms and if I will be able to get rid of them. Not having a diagnosis is also very frustrating, as I don't know what can be done to move forward. On top of this the symptoms are very uncomfortable.

Do you have an idea as to what could be going on?

Thank you,

Sam

Hi, how has your recovery been?

I have now seen a urologist, but I have to wait until the end of August for a cystoscopy, so this is very annoying. I still don't know what is wrong and it hasn't improved yet, very frustrating.

Samuel, the best thing to do now is to try avoid thinking about the issue till you meet your doctor.. Don't diagnose yourself.. I'm sure you don't have a serious thing... best of luck, keep me posted after your diagnosis

I am just waiting to get an appointment, it can take quite a long time. I really want to get it sorted out because it's been stressing me out. I was also worried that it could be herpetic urethritis, but I have not had any sores or lesions.

I really want this thing to be sorted soon. Hopefully your diagnosis is correct and the specialist doctors will help me to sort it out.

Plus, I have the urge need for urination...
the fact that you're STDs free, and your urine test came back normal...
you definitely don't have to worry..
but checking with your doc is a must! just to resolve this issue and to move on..

What would confuse me about this though is that I haven't got any discomfort in the testicle area or any extra sensitivity. The only symptoms that I have are what I previously described: stinging, discomfort when passing urine and a slight clear discharge.

Are these the same symptoms that you had?

Hi Samuel,

first a specialist doctor has 2 to diagnose you, because it's a particular issue..

- yes, I'm officially diagnosed with congested prostate, after the fingering test that the doctor performed, + an Echo test (he saw it on a screen), and a normal urine test (which came back very normal, so that the doctor didn't ask for a culture, because no infections shown in the urine test).

- I'm taking 2 medecines, the first is an anti-inflammatory, and the second is a herbal medecine made particularly for the prostate (prevention). NO ANTIBIOTICS, because I have no bacterial infection or STDs.

- Yes it's improved the right next day, since I'm not seeing any discharge in my underwear (no semen, or no prostatic fluids)

just put in mind that this is a very very common case, and the congested prostate can come because of plenty of reasons.. some people they don't treat it, it goes alone if you eat healthy...

cheers, all the best

Thank you for your reply, a few questions for you:

Did you get a firm diagnosis for having a congested prostate and if so how did the doctor do this?
Have you taken anti-biotics or just anti-imflammatory drugs?
Has your condition improved after taking this medicine?

Thanks,

Sam

I initially had an urge to go to the toilet more frequently than normal, that has eased off more recently though. I would be a good idea to see of more discharge could be taken with the swab, I'm not sure how much difference this makes though. I haven't had any warts, lesions, sores of blisters. Herpes is something that I have been really worried about though.

You may need to enter the HIV prevention community, and read what the experts and doctors say about oral sex..

DEspite that 3 months is conclusive not 6 months, receiving oral is a NON risk behavior, you don't have to test for HIV!!!

Testing negative for other STD's is great...

For me it sounds a congestion of the prostate, which is not dangerous at all, I'm having now the same thing, and I'm following up with a specialist doctor..

Im taking an anti-inflamatory medicine (it's all explained in my posts)..

You don't have to worry, but check with you doctor to describe for the convenable treatment..

JUST DON"T WORRY..

Good luck

Hi, you could be resistant to the antibiotics as well, but you came out negative. Not to scare you but sometimes it can be false negative or with HIV it can take up to 6 months to show. But it doesnt sound like you have this. Are you having any urinary symptoms? Pressure I know the stinging, but pressure or the urge to always go can be a urinary tract infection. Also next time ask for them to get an adequate sample of the discharge too.  Its clear which sounds good...also is there any blisters or lesions on your penis?? red  or warts? Good luck and breathe... it will be ok
