Muscle weakness & pain

For the past 6 mos. I have experienced, increased muscle weakness in my legs, starting in calves, moved to thighs and now is in my arms. My GP has done full blood work, urine & stool analysis & ruled out heart/circulatory and rheumatoid arthritis. The sharp, electrical type pain, I have in my legs arms and lower face are getting so bad, I now walk with a cane & climbing stairs, kneeling or getting up from a squatting position causes me to cry out.
Today, I saw a neurologist who did an EMG, a nerve test on my leg and tested my reflexes. He says I have no neurological problems but that he is booking me for an MRI.
For the past month, I have been on Gabapentin which helps me limp around better & I'm able to sleep without so many pain disturbances.
Thing is, the neurologist didn't want to hear my symptoms but only wanted answers to his questions...which I feel were quite limited. I will be asking my GP for another referral. Also, I was in hospital with severe breathing difficulties that blood work was unable to diagnose. I recovered after 5 weeks from that.
Any ideas what I may be suffering from? I'm at my wit's end and I'm journaling each week's symptoms & watching my life slowly disappear....... thanks in advance for any help to point me in another direction.

I was getting the electric current pain before I went on Gabapentin...so it's not due to meds. Also, I've had by B12 & Vit D checked and they are both great since I take good supplements & get lots of sunshine. I've looked at fibromyalgia symptoms & I don't fit into most & many of the symptoms. The neurologist ruled out any peripheral neuropathy, MS, ALS or any neuro-related diseases.
I am getting a second opinion though...which takes time. Meanwhile, I have a referral to an Internal Medicine Doc. I saw one a couple of months ago for these same symptoms & he ruled out RA & said in his report that I'm on the road to fibromyalgia/chronic pain syndrome. I am not satisfied with this diagnosis.
I sought a second opinion with another GP since I accidentally discovered that my GP thinks that this is psychosomatic/anxiety related...in other words..."It's all in my head" But I will check into the items you have listed. Thank you so much for your answer.

Electric current like jolting pain can be due to side effects of certain medications. So stop any drug if you are taking any and see if it helps. It can also be due to fibromyalgia, Vit D or Vit B12 deficiency or peripheral neuropathy of diabetes and hypothyroidism. A pinched nerve can also be the cause. Lyme’s disease is another possibility. Multiple sclerosis too should be investigated.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
