Sorry this is so long but I gotta get all the details out! I’m a 26 year old relatively healthy (aside from being overweight and maybe some IBS) female.. I woke up 5 days ago with a tingly/“numb” sensation to the sole of my right foot, as well as my pinky and ring fingers of both my hands. I attributed it initially to sleeping in a funky position, as I’ve woken up with the same sensation in those same fingers, but it would usually resolve within 20 min or so of getting up. It was very strange as this new sensation in both sets of fingers and my foot lasted all day. The next morning, that same sensation appeared in both lower legs, and it was more intense in both sets of fingers. The next day, this sensation had spread to my thighs, into my pelvic region, and into my torso. By the end of the day, the sensation had spread around to my back, also. I went to the ER (per the advice nurse’s recommendation), where they did a CT of my head, labs to check electrolytes (and I’m not sure what else), a UA (probably to confirm I wasn’t pregnant or on any drugs, lol), and an EKG, all of which were within normal limits.
I’m at my wit’s end, as these sensations are only getting more intense from my waist down (and my fingers, which now involves all my fingers except my thumbs). I actually now have diminished sensation, in addition to the tingling feeling, in those areas. I have even been having trouble with manual dexterity of my fingers with regards to writing and even operating a syringe (I’m a nursing student). I haven’t had any incontinence or profound weakness; I feel very strange when I walk, almost like that weak feeling you have when your blood sugar is low, but I’m not sure I’d call it actual weakness as strength testing is normal. Does anyone have ANY suspicion as to what it might be? I have an appointment with a doctor in a couple days, but I can’t even anticipate what they might do for me.
