A few nights ago, I was sitting on my couch and my cat walked across my groin and it hurt. Not badly, but it was a little pinch. I thought I was just sore because I work out a lot, but I felt it with my hand, and I could feel this lump, slightly larger than a jelly bean in my groin by my leg. You can actually see it visibly sticking out of my groin.
First my mom said it could be an enlarged lymph node, but I haven't had any colds or anything. Then seeing where it was (a bit higher than the lymph node) she said it could be a hernia from working out too hard. But it literally feels like a jelly bean in my stomach...it doesn't seem like a hernia to me. Also, I don't know if I'm just imagining things now, but it looks as if that side of my abdomen is swollen. It kind of aches, but again I don't know if thats just from working out so much.
Should I wait it out, keep an eye on it to see if anything changes? Maybe cut down time at the gym? Or should I see a doctor? I'm not one to go to the doctor unless I'm on my deathbed.
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you go to the gym then your mother could be right and this is an inguinal hernia. It would be wise not to use the gym until you have consulted a doctor and if this is hernia, this is treated.
Swollen lymph nodes in the groin could be due to STDs (e.g., gonococcal infection, herpes simplex virus, syphilis, chancroid, granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum etc), infection in foot, dermatitis in pelvic area, boils in pelvic area etc. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
