If you have not an xray of your lower back and hip, it may be an idea to ask your doctor to send you to get some images done of that area.
Arthritis in the hip can cause groin pain and problems in the lower back can also cause referred pain.
The doctor can arrange for you to have a blood test taken to check if you have any inflammatory problems and to see if you do have gout. It is important to find out whether you have gout or not, as you will need to be careful with what you eat and drink and depending on the level of inflammation with regard to the gout, the doctor may consider prescribing medication to control the gout.
If there is a bursa problem that is not relieved by your pain relief medications, the doctor can administer a steroid injection into the bursa that is causing the problem. The steroid injections will cause sugar levels to raise temporarily and can enhance any moods temporarily too. Sometimes the injections work for some people, in others the relief from pain may last up to 3 months or a little longer.
Make an appointment to see your doctor again and ask for images to be done (if you have not had this done recently). Don't be fobbed off by "it may be this or may be that". You need the appropriate tests done to find out what the problem is so that you can get the appropriate treatment or be referred to a physiotherapist.
