Probable annual causes for pitting edema & fatigue

I am experiencing a great deal of pitting edema in my legs (all the way to the hip), ankles, and feet.  They hurt.  I am so tired I fell asleep driving yesterday and almost hit someone head on.  It makes no difference how much sleep I get, I am still exhausted.  I seem to be swelling about the chest also.  My bra is loose in the morning and cutting into me by noon.  I had this swelling last year in April and I have had it in the past several times.  My cardiologist said it might be my meds, Metoprolol, but since I wasn't on it last year or the years prior when it occurred, this seems unlikely.  She lowered the dose, but it isn't making any difference.  She also says my heart is fine, there is no CHF.  So, what can be causing this?  Last year my PCP put me on Lasix and my creatin levels went up, causing concern.  So what do I do to find the cause?  What type of doctor do I need to see?

Hi,

Such kind of edema primarily occurs due to the abnormal functioning of one of the 3 organs, namely heart, kidney and liver. Firstly, I’ll suggest you to get a complete evaluation of the heart functions by an echocardiography/x-ray chest/ECG etc followed by the functioning of the kidneys/liver by doing their respective tests.

Probably, the problem lies in one of the three organs and I am sure it’ll be picked up by a diagnostic work up.

I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
