Reactivated CMV

Why does my CMV keep reactivating?  I have no major issues other than asthma.  My CMV reactivates sometimes as many as three time a year.  What should I be asking my doctor about to help me?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Anyone can become infected with CMV. Almost every one is exposed to CMV by the time they reach adulthood. The virus remains in body throughout life. Immunoglobulin studies showing antibodies to the virus go in favor of a latent infection. CMV recurrence is related to the extent the virus multiplied in your body during primary infection. It is often associated with HIV but I think that must have been tested in your case and given a clean report. Also the presence of the virus does not mean that you have active infection. Reactivation means both CMV IgG and IgM are present. This can be confirmed by measuring IgG levels again after 2 or 3 weeks. A rising level, or 4 times increase in IgG between the first and second sample shows CMV infection (primary or reactivated). Has all this been done?
Sadly there is no cure. The virus remains latent and causes symptoms from time to time. Antiviral medicines given intravenously at the time of infection is the only treatment.
Basically, you need to build up your immunity, by vitamins, antioxidants, healthy diet and exercise. Talk to your doctor regarding this.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
