Is it possible to have symptoms of ovulation without ovulating?

I am a 30yo female being tested for causes of infertility.  I have no cysts and my HSG test was clear.  I seem to have symtpoms of ovulation, as my nipples get very tender around the ovulation point each month.  But At times I do have galactorrhea if suppressed.  When tested two years ago the Dr.  said prolactin levels were normal.  I still have to get levels of androgen tested, but my current fertility specialist is suspecting the androgen levels are a problem.  I don't have hair on my upper lip, but I do have dark hair around my belly button, nipples, toes, and quite far down my leg from the pubic region.  I also have pelvic pain around menstrual cycle and at various times throughout the month, sometimes during intercourse. Two questions: Does this sound like PCOS?  Also, is it possible to have symptoms of ovulation around day 12-14 but without ovulating?  So confused!

Thanks.

Hi! I was just passing by and saw your post. I have endometriosis and had a laproscopy to get the diagnosis. Has this ever come up in your doctor visits?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Yes, it does sound like PCOS but then cysts can be caught on normal ultrasound. The ability to conceive does not depend on one factor alone. The ovary may not be producing follicles; if ovary is producing follicles, they may not be maturing to rupture to release the egg; the ovary may be functioning properly but the fallopian tubes may be blocked (these are open or not can be known by injecting a dye and taking X-ray, called hysterosalpingogram (HSG); the HSG may be normal but the cilia or fine hair in the fallopian tube may not be moving to propel the egg into the uterus; even if this is all fine the lining of uterus may not be right to accept the fertilized egg; there may be hormonal defects in the body that prevent fertilization; the cervix may be releasing anti-sperm antibody so that even if everything is fine, the sperm cannot reach the egg as the antibodies kill it. The semen may not be having the required number of healthy sperms. If everything is normal, you may not be trying on your fertile days or the semen must be fast pouring out of vagina immediately after sex.
Since you have all the symptoms of ovulation, there is a chance you are having hormonal problems. A graffian follicle study should be done to see if you have mature ova or not.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your gynecologist to run tests and examination to clinch a diagnosis. Take care!
