Root canal infection

I have had a reoccurring infection after a root canal over the past two years.  Now my hands & feet are swelling up and showing arthritis like symptoms.  Very painful.  I am having mouth surgery very soon to "clean out" the cavity that has formed from the infection eating away the bone tissue in the area near where the root canal was done.  My question is, "Could the infection have gotten into my bloodstream and travelled to my hands and feet, causing the swelling and tenderness I'm experiencing?

It is possible that infections in the mouth can spread.
You do not say, but no doubt, you were prescribed with antibiotics to clear the infections.

You also do not say whether you are male or female.  It is quite common for hands and feet to swell during menstruation time.

Other reasons can be from heart or kidney problems.

It is also probable that you may have gout.

Make an appointment to see your doctor to get blood tests done with regard to kidney and liver function and inflammatory disease like gout and rheumatoid arthritis.

If you have been on lots of antibiotics, be aware that antibiotics not only destroy the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria.  This then can bring about fugal and yeast infections.  Symptoms of fungal infections can be itching and soreness of the skin as well as sore mouth with white patches.  Fungal and yeast infections are treated by antifungal medications.  Eating live yogurt and also applying it to problem areas (even your genitals) is a good home remedy.

Wishing you speedy recovery.
