Same Issue!

I'm 55 and in great health.  My toenail polish was chipping off and when I went to remove it so I could add new polish, I noticed underneath the left side of my left toenail, it was black.  At first I thought, "wow, I should scrub my feet better when bathing," but quickly realized it was a bruise.  Then when taking off the polish on my right foot, I noticed that also, on the right side of the right big toe, there was also bruising.  In reading everyone's posts, it seems this is more common that I first realized, and figure whatever it is, it's probably caused by the same thing in all of us.  That being said, it just seems odd that everyone's doctor acts as though they've never heard of this before.  I'm going to make an appt. with my doctor and will report back with what I find.

Saw my doctor yesterday and he said he thought it was a nail fungus.  He said there is a medication you can take, but it's only effective 50% of the time, and you have to take it for 3 months.  He recommended soaking my toes in......are you ready?  Listerine Mouthwash!  He said as odd as it sounds, it works.  I'm going to try it....I'd rather put Listerine on my feet than in my mouth.  That is nasty as a mouthwash!

I am not a dr. and therefore I can't diagnose.  I think you made the right decision on going to your physician.  Maybe it is a bruise but its good to be certain about it.
