Smelly yellowish pellets coming up from chest/throat

For years now I've asked this question of  many doctors/dentists and it still remains to be answered...Quite frequently I get really bad breath for around a week which is followed by expulsion of very hard, yellowish in colour, very smelly pellets from my throat and/or chest. Sometimes it is followed by a bad sinus infection and /or bronchitis, but not always! It is very unpleasant and I would just love to get rid of this problem. I should also mention that I've had phlegm non-stop in my throat for as long as I can remember, I don't know if this could possibly be associated with this condition/problem...I am not a smoker/nor do I live in a smoke-filled environment.

These are very common with chronic infected tonsils and/or adenoids.Channels in either T/A called crypts collect these particles and rot. EENTs can perform T and As(tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy) but are very painful for adults. A new procedure called a PITA promises to be less painful with quicker recovery time.Problem only few EENTs use this procedure. Search your area for an EENT that performs the PITA and you will find a doctor more willing to diagnose and treat your condition. Unfortunately, surgery is the only real option to getting rid of those smelly pellets once and for all. Good luck.Your friendly Respiratory Therapist.

I am laughing hysterically right now, and have to catch my breath!

Okay...I haven't had these so-called tonsoliths for a WHILE now, but when I was on the phone with a client yesterday evening- up the whitish little thingy came! Just to see if tradition held through, I squashed the little stinker between my finger and thumb and out came the wretched stench of the dreaded tonsolith!

I was just now watching a silly children's movie on HBO, and rememered to 'google' the pesky problem, and found this thread! I am not a smoker, and this has plagued me from childhood! No one knew what the heck I was ever complaining about, and would like 'give' it to my mom when I was a kid to inspect, and she (pretty intolerant of all things gross) would like get nauseated, laugh, and then say she had no frickin idea as to what the damned thing ever was!

I want to reach out and hung you all- let's all go to like a coffee house, cough hard, and see what we can come up with! Ha ha! Just kidding, but you are not alone!

Hi Just joined this webs to let you all know some important information.I too have suffered with these disgusting yellow spots and sore throats for years. I have found it very difficult to get anu advice as to the cire. Allthough there seems alot of people who have this issue no one seems to know how to cure and prevent. Any way after a long search I think I may have the answer. But I am giving you all this advice for free it cost me £20.00 just to download this info. I was not amused as I thought this was a book I was ordering. So please do not dowload this if you come across it on the internet. It is How to banish tonsil stones by Dianne Putman.

Well all it states is to have a dairy free diet, Yes that's it ! Dairy free.If you get these stones its most likely to be that your intolerant to dairy products. Apparently your body does not digest the lactose in the milk and other dairy products. The calcium particles get stored in the body in areas such as the nostrils and the tonsils. Over time the calcium clumps together in the throat and begin to rot.

Worth a try and will alleviate alot of other digestive problems as well.

Needed to let you all know this to save you £20.00 if you come across this websight. Its sounds right and good advice and worth a try, but not worth £20.00 just for a brochure.

Good luck !

I, too, have the same problem along with the bad breath. Ironically, I was watching a news segment discussing the issue. An ENT is your best bet and they now have a procedure to remove the stinky pellets.
I will be looking for an ENT that know about the pellets and the procedure

I too did a search for "smelly phlegm" and found this website, thanks for all the info guys!

I have had the smelly balls since I was about 16, ever since I got a really bad sinus-type infection.  I used to pick them out with wooden toothpicks.

Fast-forward--now I am 26 and have really smelly phlegm and get the smelly balls of **** about every two weeks.

Like another poster, I feel one in my throat right now but it seems impossible to reach.

I went to an ENT, for strep throat, and when I told him about this, he brushed it off, and pretty much said it goes away, If anyone is in the dc/md/va (particularly Virginia) area, please let me know if you know a  doctor thats listens and cares what you are actually talking about.

I am the type of person that does my own research, so it is disheartening to hear a doctor say its nothing when I know its something.

I am not sure if I have the bad breath though, that is what I am most concerned about afterall.

After reading this forum, I want my tonsils removed, they seem to be the crux of the problem for most of the people on here.

Thanks for All Your Help!
