Sore lump near lower spine

I have a very sore lump about thumb size just to the left of lower spine. I get terrible backache if I walk and stand for any length of time.  What could this be?  What kind of doctor to see?

I would start with my family doctor and then perhaps a neurosurgeon, but I would see my family doctor first and let him reccomend a course of action.
Good luck with this.  Try not to get yourself too worked up, just get yourself to your doctor so you can get some peace of mind.   Take care, Sharon

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The lump could be a neurofibroma (harmless collection of nerve and fibers), a cyst, a pilonidal cyst, an abscess or a bony growth.
The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem. Then proper referral for concerned specialist can take things further and get you proper treatment. Take care!
