Strange back and abdominal situation

For the last 10 or 11 years I've been having these awful spells that make my life miserable. The doctors have been unable to diagnose the problem. The spells start with a sudden dull ache in my back, which gets worse quickly, spreads to my stomach, and my entire abdomen blows up as high into my chest as it can go, making it hard to breathe. The bloating and pain increase at a fast pace. I have pain in my entire back, shoulders, neck, and arms. Eventually I start vomiting, not from nausea but from pain. Once I get really emptied out, the pain is gone almost as quickly as it started. There is no pattern to these spells. It doesn't seem to matter if I've eaten at all or what I've eaten. I had a hip revision 8 weeks ago, and since the surgery, the spells have increased in frequency. Before the surgery, it had been months since I had a spell. I've wondered if it might be related to muscle spasms, but have no way of knowing. Gall bladder problems have been ruled out, as has heart trouble. I haven't even been to church since the surgery for fear of having one of those wild spells in public. Can anyone help? Thank you so much!

I just got out of the Hosp yesterday for a very similar sounding event. These have been going on for almost 2 yrs now for me. They usually start with abdominal pain which quickly turns to vomiting (until all I'm doing is vomiting bile and froth.) Every test possible has been done on me, and they have ALL turned up nothing. About eight months ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. As far as any doctor can seem to explane to me, our intestines are loaded with serotonin & lots of (ready to misfire) nerve endings. Often a hospital worthy stomach event will be proceeded
by a VERY stressful event (significant worry or a big fight) and that will be enough to tip the serotonin levels & get the nerves to greatly misfire, setting off all kinds of alarms there is something wrong internally, when all the tests will show otherwise. This has been a great hurdle to try to overcome in excepting my Fibromyalgia as a life long partner. You to may be dealing with a larger health issue of this nature. Talk to you Doctor, they are starting to be more informed. Best of luck.

Hi if i were you i would have an upper GI donefirst and then a colonoscopy it sounds like a stomach or intestine issue. You could have a nasty infection in the stomch or intestine. But see about the upper GI and colonoscopy first. Hope you feel better soon.  Lisa

Try taking a really good probiotic with enzymes.  Sounds like a gassy problem - could be caused by an ulcer, a hiatal hernia, or even a parasite or fungal infection.  A really good Probiotic should help.  (They are rather expensive at the health food store - about $50 and you need to take a little insulated lunch pail with you and ice packs as it has to be kept refrigerated so you don't kill the biotics).
