Swollen Feet

I like to go skiing every year, but find the boots very uncomfortable.  I own my own pair of boots which fit perfectly at the beginning of the day, but as the day goes on, after lots of skiing, my feet swell up and cause restriction of the blood supply.  This causes pins and needles and pain in my toes. Last year, my big toenails went black and dropped off it was so bad, yet the boots have been fitted and fit properly and comfortably at the beginning of each holiday.
My boots are custom fitted with the ability to make every adjustment under the sun, but sometimes even at the extent of their adjustment they still cause the blood supply to be cut off!

I generally get very hot feet especially on a night time (and they can be smelly at times!)
I would appreciate it if anyone could shed any light on this and recommend anything which may be taken to prevent this problem to make mine (and my partner's) holiday less restrictive!

Thanks
Hotfoot

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of frost bite or trench feet. They are common in winter outdoor enthusiasts. Avoid tight-fitting clothing on feet. Keep them dry.Wear clothing in multiple layers and avoid perspiration by using adequately ventilated clothing.
Also increase fluid and caloric intake in cold weather.

If symptoms persist then pls consult a physicisn and start with vasodilator drugs.

Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.Good luck.

There is some type of chemical in red wine that can cause the swelling.  I was at a point where I was drinking it every night (very stressful time) and my feet, ankles and hands swelled and were sore.  My doctor was arranging to send me to arthritis specialists and everything.  When I started a weight loss plan I cut the wine and the swelling went away.  Now when I have it as a treat I immediately know it is the wine.

Do you drink red wine at all when you are skiing?  I have recently found that it is red wine that causes my feet to swell.
