I was in a rear end collision while I was at a dead stop too. I had a severe pain on the rightside of my face, head and neck. The reason why it was just on my right side was because I had my but turned to the left so my mouth and cheek hit first. I believe I passed out right after and when we all gathered away from traffic. It was a 5 care pileup and I was the first person hit. This accident happened in 1985 and I am still in severe d pain. Actually it has gotten worse over time. I saw a chiropractor for it among my family doctor and a orthopedic and finally a neurologist. I received a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Every inch of me hurts. I continued working till the late 90's but should have quit sooner. It got to the point where I could no longer even prioritize something very simple that I had been doing a long time. I enjoyed my job immensely and I needed that job to provide for my family. I too hit my head on the steering wheel I should point out so I am sure we all suffered whiplash. I read recently that they have been doing studies of whiplash and it totally describes what I have gone thru all these 29 years of constant debilitating pain. I should mention that I also have gone to 2 different pain doctors. My 1st pain doctor shook my hand and said :"thank you beat me." I thought I was going to cry on the way home. In this study they mentioned that whiplash should be treated immediately. I wish I could remember what they called it. Radio something or other but it is everything I have experienced from nausea to neck pain and headaches, going to my arms wrists and shoulders but not sure if they all started or if it went in sequence. I am one of the people who has chronic whiplash pain that has spread throughout my body and given the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I did get depression shortly after the whiplash. It was like my neck was just there minding it's own business and suddenly I knew it was there because it wouldn't stop hurting. I was told at first that it was all in my head with the doctor also motioning towards his head. I hated him for that. He did finally send me to a hospital's neurologist and he was the one diagnosing me with fibro. I wish you luck.
I know of 2 people in a car accident, one 45 yr old hit his head on steering wheel, but settled too soon with car ins, and was eventually disabled ( it took well over a year with elevated problems til he was unable to function and work)
another woman at 60 had a similar head injury, now can't tolerate any noise, music, headaches, severe nausea…is disabled so i in both cases the brain or spinal connection was effected.
Don't give up, ask to see a spine dr or craniofacial specialist…remember 'shaken baby syndrome'? the anxiety may be due to not solving this problem, rather than medical best of luck
