Undiagnosed upper abdominal and chest pain

I am 23 and have had Lt upper abdominal and chest pain for 4 months now. I went to the ER twice when it first started when the pain was based in my abdomen. 2 CT scans were done and an US of my gallbladder. They found nothing. When my pain was persistent and chest pain also started I went to a PCP who felt I had inflammation in my chest and a GI issue such as constipation. After taking miralax and valium the pain has not resolved. I am mostly concerned today because I had been having a pulsation in my Lt breast or chest and today the pulsation is now in my Lt upper back. Could this be r/t an artery or anuerysm? The ER said my aorta looked ok.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Pain under left ribs (abdomen and chest area) could be due to acidity with gastric reflux or hiatal hernia. Take a late night snack. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas. I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system) if these tips help you. Other than that it could also be costochondritis, pleuritis (inflammation of covering of lung) or pericarditis (inflammation of covering of heart). Since you do not mention any other symptoms, it is less likely to be any of these. IBS, Crohn’s, chronic constipation, spleen problems like bleeding, cyst, abscess etc can also cause pain under left ribs.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!

Miralax?  Valium?  This physician has NOT a clue in my opinion.

Did you have an EKG or any other testing/labs to rule out a cardiac problem when you were in the ER the last time?

US of the gallbladder do not always tell you if there is a gallbladder problem.  I would recommend follow up with a HIDA Scan to thoroughly rule this problem out.

Have this physician referral you to a specialist.  Definitely have both possibilites of a cardiac and a GI problem ruled out.
