What could be causing all my pain?

I have been posting in different threads to find answers to my pain!
For 7 weeks I have been experiencing pain. It first started off on my right side back - kidney area. (original diagnosis kidney stones). I was prescribed Dicofenac (3 a day) and antibiotics (for 1 week). Urine tests had found blood traces in my urine. I was booked in for an ultrasound to see if there were any stones. Ultrasound on kidneys and bladder came back OK.
I have had two lots of blood tests - liver, kidneys, FBC, inflammation - all coming back OK. Urine tests since first one is also OK.
I had also told the doctor about my fatigue and weight gain (as well as carpal tunnel and other symptoms) and the doctor sent me for a thyroid blood test. The thyroid came back as slightly under active. I was told to have another blood test in January.
Pain has peaked twice in the 7 weeks, resulting in taking more pain killers. (paracetamol, codeine + diclofenac) however codeine has now been reduced and coping well. Pain moved round to the front (right side) into my groin (also shooting down my right leg). It has been a dull ache on occasions as well as sharp/stabbing pains.
It is now mainly on my right side lower abdomen.
Appendix has also been ruled out. CT scan also confirmed no kidney stones.
I have been occasionally constipated - I mainly thought due to the codeine/diclofenac in take. Currently got mild laxatives to take to ensure bowels empty OK.

I noticed that the week I first got the pain I was due for my period.
I currently have the Mirena Coil (Since June 2013). Previously I was on the implant (no periods at all for 3 years). When I had Mirena inserted, July, Aug, Sept 4 day periods on time. October no period (when pain started) and November was 1 week late but was just spotting for 2 days.
After intercourse recently, blood appeared and I had spotting for a few hours after.

I have just had a full pelvic and abdominal ultrasound. All organs are fine.
Sonographer said he saw a small cyst on my right ovary. He said it is most likely a follicle cyst but it is most likely the cause of my pain.
I'm not 100% convinced that all the pain I have had is that small cyst??

As your cycle is due and you have started getting the pains, these are likely to be related to your menstrual cycle.  It is not uncommon for women to have severe back pain or belly pain a few days before the start of a period.

Having a hot bath may help the pain.  A hot water bottle covered in a cloth or towel and placed on your back or tummy can also help to lessen the pain.

Best wishes.

Well I'm pretty confident that the pain I had was the cyst they found.
The last week and a half I have been free of pain.
I keep diary of my cycles and Decembers period would have been due yesterday. Just started getting the same pains again. That will suggest that the cyst tis causing probs again or another cyst?!
If I get to the point where paracetamol doesn't help like two months ago then I will be visiting my doctor.

At the age of 25, you are highly unlikely to be going through the change of life.

It is a good idea to keep a monthly cycle chart of your periods and any pains you experience as well as any emotional feelings you get.  This will show you and your doctor a pattern of your menstrual cycle and how it is affecting you.

Best wishes.

I just read about fibromyalgia online. It has be never been mentioned by my GP and I haven't asked.

I have now seen my doctor about my last ultrasound scan. She thinks the cyst that is on my right ovary is functional. The size is about 2.5cm. She has said to see what my cycle is like in December.

I know that I do not have any muscular/back pain at the moment. I have had bad troubles in the past and my chiropractor was happy with my last appointment.

For info - I am 25 years old.

Polycystic ovaries can cause a lot of pain.  They will also make your periods erratic and irregular.  You do not say how old you are, to say that you may be on the change of life.

The right groin pain that you are experiencing and that this is causing a shooting down pain in your leg could be from a lower back spinal problem.  When the sciatic nerve is irritated this can cause pain to shoot down the leg.   Groin pain can also be from arthritic hips and aggravated nerves causing a condition called meralgia paraesthetica.

As appendicitis and stones have been ruled out, another cause of pain on the right hand side can be from inflamed glands.

Kidney stones can be very small like grains of sand and do not always show up.  There are 4 different main types of kidney stones and not all of these show up on xray.

Do make ensure that you drink plenty of fluids like water so that you do not get dehydrated.  Dehydration can lead to kidney stones.  About 2-3 litres is usually recommended.  Don't overdo it though as too much water can be just as dangerous as having not enough.

Best wishes.

You looked at fibromyalgia once but was it ruled out by a doc? I would get another opinion on that. I hope all is well with your appointment and I am very curious to know how things turn out. It is difficult on this side when you can't order any tests and try to solve the problem. All anyone can do is hope your doc does the right tests. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.
I had looked at fibromyalgia back in the early days of my pain. But doctor had never mentioned it so I kinda of ruled it out.
I'm now waiting for my gp to receive the ultrasound results/report to see what she says. How ever I am going to hopefully see her tomorrow as I have had some bleeding recently which is out of cycle. I am assuming its due to the small cyst they have seen. The sonographer did not seem too worried about seeing the cyst. So I guess it doesn't matter I have the iud still in place. I shall see what is said tomorrow.

Hello,
First, I am sorry for all the pain you have been. Secondly, I want to state that I am in no way a licensed medical professional however, I am a medical student starting in the fall.

Now, based on your symptoms and all the tests that rule out the obvious I have a suspicion you may have fibromyalgia. I consider this an an option because statistics have shown that the Mirena implant has led to cases of fibromyalgia (you can do a quick google search and it should come up). Also, I am a little concerned that your physician would leave in an IUD with the diagnosis of a cyst, regardless of the type. I would get a second opinion from a well-known female GYN.

Good luck with this and please keep me posted on the outcome.
