I had arthroscopic knee surgery back in 1996. I had some swelling, and the bandage got too tight, if I recall. I was allowed to cut off the part that felt like it was cutting off my circulation when I asked the doctor's office. You should not feel at all hesitant to call your surgeon and tell him/her of your concern about swelling. Elevating and icing it might help, but your surgeon should be kept apprised of your situation and be able to best advise you.
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
This could be due to tight bandage or plaster bandage impairing the blood and lymph flow. It could also be due to infection and cellulitis post surgery. Without examination, it is difficult to pinpoint the cause. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Please do not ignore it.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
the badages are off, and have been for about 2 weeks, its just keeps getting bigger all the time, the doctor saw me 6 days ago, i mentioned the swellen, and he had me checked out for a blood clot, test came back negative, he then told me he did not need to see me again, not sure what to do at this point.
Hi
If infection and blood clots have been ruled out, then the other possibility is venous pooling due to less frequent use of the limb. You can elevate the limb on pillows at night and not put pressure on limbs in the morning. Some passive leg exercise which works at contracting and relaxing the leg muscles may help.
Alternatively you may need vascular studies to rule out deep vein thrombosis which is common after knee surgery. Is this the test you are talking about?
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
