It is important his doctor rule out/have GI specialist rule out pain stemming from a problem inside your son's esophagus or stomach before he would take any NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, as these can potentially cause stomach bleeding.

If your son has fibromyalgia, which involves several positive tender points in the body (rheumatologist can diagnose), I have family w/fibro, so if your son gets this diagnosis, feel free to private message me.

The dr. brings up an excellent point about anxiety, which can bring on a plethera of very real symptoms.  Has your son been stressed lately?

I had a sibling who used to claim stomach was hurting to avoid a chore they didn't like- no chance of this type of thing w/him, is there?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Left-sided chest pain can have several causes like Costochondritis, Tietze’s syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Heart disease, Heartburn or Gastroesophageal reflux, and Anxiety.

He can take pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac.  However, I would still suggest that you seek consult with a Doctor to exclude more serious causes of chest pain.  Your Doctor would examine him and request for several tests like blood tests, Chest x-ray, EKG, and Echocardiogram.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Did they do any other tests other than chest x-ray to look for various things such as: heart defects, esophagus problems (my dr. told me esophageal spasms can mimic heart/chest pain), musculoskeletal issue by probing for pin-point pain of costochondritis?
