Thanks for the replies. I am too old to be pregnant. Was prescribed the chlarithromycin for post flu respiratory infection. Yes the flu made me nauseous but the drug made the nausea worse. I definitely now have gut problems - gas, diarrhoea, nausea, salivation etc. Yes, I will try the probiotics and peppermint tea & make an appointment to see the Dr.
Clarithromycin is an antibiotic and taken by people who are allergic to penicillin.
You do not say why you were prescribed with this antibiotic and what symptoms you had before you started to take this medication.
If your symptoms that you had before the antibiotic have not changed since you finished the medication, then it is likely that the antibiotic did not work. So you will need to go back to your doctor to find out if you do require another course of antibiotics.
If you are sexually active, have you considered doing a pregnancy test?
Taking antibiotics will not only kill off the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria that controls fungal growth. Although consuming natural yogurt and probiotics may help, this may not be enough if you have a lot of fungal overgrowth. Your doctor would be able to prescribe an antifungal medication that is taken by mouth for this. Although a single oral dose of 100mg of Fluconazole may help (this can be purchased without a prescription form the pharmacy), your doctor can prescribe a much stronger and longer dosage.
I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your doctor to discuss your problem with him to identify why you are feeling like this so that you can then be treated appropriately.
You need to find out what is causing the gnawing feeling and the nausea to be able to treat any underlying cause.
Drinking camomile or peppermint tea, ginger and dill are good to help ease the feelings of nausea. Keep off all fried and processed foods and eat light meals.
wishing you a speedy recovery
You need to take probiotics, and yogurt for good bacteria to get back into your intestines and stomach.
