erythrocyte test result

can anyone help explain to me what my 10month old baby girls test results mean and if i should be at all worried. Her liver function test result came back as slightly elevated with the AST being 57 iknow the normal range is between 5 and 40 also her erythrocyte test came back abnormal at 18n the normal rate for her age is between 1 and 10. I know that the latter test is something to do with red blood cells but nobody has really explained anything, they just told us to come back in 4 weeks and have them done again, but 4 weeks is a long time to wait when she is only 10 months old and you dont know whats going on. Please could someone let me know if i should be worried
thank you

Hi
Thanks for keeping me posted!
For a ten month old, she has been through a lot! This explains slightly elevated levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate and AST. I have not examined her hence cannot say for sure, but this kind of value is expected after a prolonged illness. I would rely on the doctor’s decision to wait things out for a month. One thing I can say for sure is that the values are not abnormally abnormal to cause immediate concern. As she will recover so will the values improve.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Thank you for answering.
my baby was not breastfed. She has been poorly since she was born. she kept having rapid breathing when she was first born then she got chicken pox but unfortunately she got a secondary infection on top of that then she had a chest infection and since then she has not been able to get rid of a cough and cold which she has now had for a bout two months she has also suffered a prolonged case of constipation, which is why the doc decided to do the blood tests.  could any of this have contributed to the test results or could there be some other underlying problem
thankyou for any answers

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
A slightly elevated AST level is expected in breast fed infants. By erythrocyte rate I presume you mean erythrocyte sedimentation rate. This is only slightly elevated at 18. It is an indication of inflammation, anemia, or any chronic disease like tuberculosis. However in all of them the rate is very high. Since both the tests were only marginally above the normal range, the doctors asked you to wait for 4 weeks before repeating them. You need to be concerned only if your infant is suffering from some ailment.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
