extremely painful and growing lump in neck

My sister has had pain on the left side of her head for about a month now. She went to the doctor and they told her it was an ear infection and was treated as such. Her pain continued to get worse and she returned to the doctor. They gave her a higher dosage of antibiotics but the pain still continued to increase. The third time she went to the doctor, she insisted on a CAT scan. She was given two and was then diagnosed with mastoiditis. She was hospitalized for 4 days.
She saw an ENT specialist and he told her that it she doesn't have mastoiditis but she was so swollen it was hard for him to determine what she did have because she was so swollen. He took her off antibiotics and put her on steroids. The following day the pain had subsided considerably.
It has been almost 1 week now since she has been on steroids and gone to the specialist but the pain has returned and she can now feel a lump in her neck area that is visibly growing and excrutiatingly painful. She is also vomitting and fatigued. The lump is on the left side of the neck.
