hand injury?

I'm quite embarrassed with myself that I would let my 15 year old son get me so mad that I hit a door twice with the side of my hand, balled up in a fist.. It hurt-duh!!-and started swelling immediately. It's now the next day and is still swollen but not quite as much, no bruises, just a cut from hitting thr door so hard! I can bend my fingers about halfway down. I don't have ins. or an extra $200.00 so can't really go to the dr.for x-rays. Does anyone know if this sounds like a fracture? And even if it was, they don't  put casts on your hand right? I'm thinking if it's broke, drs. would do with me like they did with my son when he broke his collar bone and after sitting in emergency for 8 hrs., gave us a sling and told him to take it easy for 6 wks. Appreciate any advice or other similar experiences and the action taken.

It's good the swelling is going down, common for it to bruise afterwards especially from the hit, once the bruises discolor it's a good sign that it is healing. I hope it gets better real soon.

I think if it was for sure broken you would not be able to even move your fingers as well as you described. If anything, I think it could be a fracture. I would hold off on getting it checked for now, plenty of ice should help and do the trick, if it still is no better then I would get it looked at. A very good sign is that there is no bruising and the swelling has gone down; it being difficult to move your fingers however may not be a good thing. I'd wait to see if it improves more and if you can slowly manage to move your fingers even more downward before getting it looked at.

I unfortunely have done the same thing in the past. I let someone get me so angry that I punched a wall, on two separate occasions. The first time it turned out I broke two fingers. When I first hit the wall, my fingers and hand turn purple and black and swelled immediately. I could move my fingers a little but it was painful. They put me in a case past my wrist and recommended surgery. I never did the surgery and hand still gives me problems when its cold. The other time I hit a wall, I didnt break anything but I damaged the muscle and nerves between each of my fingers. They still put me in a soft cast.... I know going to see the doctor is really expensive but if the swelling doesn't go down or your hand starts turning colors you might want to really consider going to the doctor. Because if it is broken it may cause more problems later.... hope that helps.
