joint pain in teenager

My 16yr old broke the 4th metatarsel in her right foot in March 2010 dancing. It healed slowly, throughout June 2010. At the beginning of July 2010 she came across uneven ground while running and broke the 5th metatarsel in her left foot. Its a Jones fracture. Let me include that she is 5' 11" and weighs 210lbs. She has been using crutches. During the past week she has been complaining about her both feet hurting, her shoulders, arms and knees. She has alot of dairy in her diet. She also drinks Moutain Dew, four 16oz. soda pops a week. My questions are these, Do you think her bones broke rather easily for someone her age? Should I be worried about her bone density? Is the joint pain because of the crutches and crawling on her knees after both breaks?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Well, the joint pains can be due to crutches, crawling etc. Bone fractures could have been due to accidents, but yes, you must get this investigated. Maybe your daughter has PCOD, especially if her periods are irregular, and the associated hormonal changes can make the bone weak. It can also be a parathyroid gland problem.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I just wanted to take the time to thank you again. My daughter had an ultra sound and they found many cysts in her ovaries. You pointed us in the correct direction and we sincerely thank you.
