jpain associated with hernia

I have an umbilical hernia which is about the size of a large melon.  I have had this for quite a long time, but recently I have been having pain on my right side radiating from the front to the back.  I only have this pain when I am laying down and try to turn.  I can turn either left or right and it is still there.  It is so bad that it takes my breath completely away.  I do not have this pain when standing.  What could be causing the pain only when laying down?

I've talked to my dr in the past but wasn't having any of this pain as I do now.  Dr said that as long as I have no problems then surgery can be put off.  I still sleep on my stomach and have no pain as long as I do not try to turn.......who ever sleeps in the same position all night. I definitely don't.

I don't have any medical insurance and have to pay for everything out of pocket.

I am most positive it is this large hernia causing you problems.

Have you even consulted a physician about this in regards to surgical intervention?
