i had my gall bladder removed in 1978, and i never heard of the test you mentionned in your email, i have seen a gastrospecialist and he can,t figure this one out, but since then last year i have change to another specialist and i am waiting for the result of my scan next week, thanks for your email.
gall bladder was removed many years ago, but not the appendix, the pains is on the right side below the ribs its like a round ball pushing on my ribs when i move, cannot bend down.
thanks for email, but i had my gall bladder removed many years ago, the pains is on my right side just below my ribs, last year exactly i year ago i had the same pains, after 6 weeks went away, and now i have it again. i fractured 3 ribs same side three years ago, i am wondering if it did not heal properly , the doctors i saw lately can,t figure it out, i can,t hardly walk or bend down now
It sounds like what I have..Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. It is spasms of the bial ducts and hard to diagnose without an ERCP with manometry that checks the pressure in the bial ducts. It can only be performed by a G.I. doctor that specializes in this type of procedure, usually an interventional gastrointerologist. There are not a lot of doctors that are familiar with the disease let alone how to properly treat it or have the correct equipment that can perform the test to diagnosis it. SOD usually comes on after the gallbladder is removed. I was great for one year then it came on almost a year to the date after my gallbladder was removed. This is just a possibility as what you describe sounds similar to what I have. I hope this helps and you feel better soon.
did they check your appendix and gall bladder? I would imagine they would have been one of the first things they would have checked. But if they did not check them, you should have them checked. those are both on your right side under your ribs. (I have had both removed, which is how I know this.) I hope you feel better soon!
I have 2 suggestions based on my own previous experiences, but it depends on where the pain is under your ribs -- what side, front or back, high or low, etc.
1. On 2 separate occasions, I've had severe pain under my ribs on my upper left side that, after testing, xrays, etc, was determined to be either pleurisy or costrocondritis, and were probably related to wearing tight clothing (like a girdle, basically) for many hours in a row, right up against a major scar that I have on that side, along with the consumption of some alcohol (I was at a party).
2. I had severe, stabbing pains that came and went under my ribs on my upper right side in the front - felt like right above my stomach, but below my chest. These came and went over about a 6 month period of time. I had many tests (colonoscopy, endoscopy, xrays, ultrasounds, etc), and no one could find anything. I finally spoke with a doctor who said she'd seen this happen to 1 other person (where all the signs pointed to gall bladder issues, but all of the tests were negative), and sent her (and ultimately me) to an area surgeon who reviewed her results and removed her gall bladder anyhow, and all of her pain was magically gone. I went to the same surgeon, who said there are multiple things that can be happening with gall bladders that no one ever tests for, and removal is the best way to fix it. After reviewing my records, he decided that removing my gall bladder would be the best course of action, so he did, and I haven't had those pains since! That was almost 6 months ago!
In any case, I don't know if either of those will help, but I do hope someone can find you some relief! Good luck!
