no one knows

ok here goes, in the past 6 monthes or so I have been having upper stomach/chest pains. They come in waves rather awake or asleep but it goes like this..its starts out kind of like a burning pain, Then goes up into my chest, and down the bottom left arm.all in the matter of 2 to 3 minutes. the pain peaks (very painfull) then subsides to no pain. it repetes it off and on trough the day now, but in the begining once every couple weeks. it makes me nassus, assumming from the pain..it goes away when the attack does. as far as breathing the pain kind of takes my breath..it also goes away when attack does. i have went to the doctor who put me on anti accids but does not help at. I then went to er and they told me anxitey induced esophagus spasam. They gave me adavin which helps but my regular doctor doesn't want to give me that..what could it be and what do I do??? Food does occasionally get stuck in my throat but not most of the time..

Meyan, I hate to say this but alot of doctors blame panic attack or anxiety attack on everything once they know you have had them. This makes me so angry!  Not that maybe thats what it was but once you get that lable the Doctors seem to always blame it on that when they dont want to take the time to figure out what it really is. Panic attacks are very real and very scary but that doesn't mean everything that goes on with a person its panic..I also think antidepressents are over rated..If you cant sleep you must be depressed, your going trough menopause you must be depressed, if your having chest pains and its not a heart attack it must be pantic attack you need anti depressents. Everytime I go to the doctor she seems to say you need antidepressents?? I believe if I went in there with a toe ach it would need antidepressents. I have high anxiety and everytime they put me on some antidepressents it always makes it worse. Some people just cant take them but the doctor will say there are hundreds of them lets try another, well I have took about 6 different kind and all gave me the same effect. I think my doctor can just look at me and say you need antidepressent..I get so angry. I get depressed on ocasion which is normal part of life but never does it affect my ability to motavate. Happy, Sad, Confussed, Anxious all part of life..Any how I know this not a pantic attack. It doesnt even scare me it just hurts thats all. Thanks Doctornee for not saying oh it just depression. I do however think all that you wrote is possiable. Got a doctors appt today again so I will keep you posted.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
The symptoms as you describe point towards 3 main possibilities. One is severe acidity, other is gastric reflux or GERD and third is hiatal hernia. Treatment is a combination of drugs of various acid reducing groups and lifestyle changes. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
Talk to your doctor about trying a combination of drugs.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

One night, after a stress filled evening, I experienced pain on the left side chest, went down my left arm. I have been dealing with anxiety and panic attacks for years. So I called a health line, cause I thought must be heart attack. Nurse says sounds like anxiety attack take a clonazepam (I had some on hand) and sure enough I felt better. There are none naracotic drugs you could try if you wanted to see to help. Amitriptyline is one for example. Sometimes you just gotta bug the doctor over again to get the right result. Regurtitating food sounds like it could be related.
