occasional vertigo question

hello there,

im a 23-year old male, i get occasional vertigo episodes when lying down
it occurs especially when turning to the right side while lying down and it goes away when i go back to the left side lying position.. what seems to be my problem, i think it is ENT related..

could  you help me in this regard please.

Dizziness could be due to postural hypotension (blood pressure falling with change of position), internal ear problems and cervical spondylitis or compression of cervical spinal nerves. All these cause dizziness when you get up from lying down position or when you change position that results in a change in the level of your head. Cervical spondylitis and ear problems also cause dizziness on changing the position of the neck.
If ear is the cause of vertigo (rotator movement of self or environment) then it could be due to benign positional vertigo, Meniere's disease, vestibular neuronitis and labyrinthitis. Other causes of dizziness are otitis media, trauma, side effects of drugs, TMJ, and fluid in ear. All these causes will have to be ruled out one by one by your ENT through specialized test.
Pinched cervical spinal nerves can be diagnosed by nerve conduction tests and MRI. Postural hypotension can be diagnosed by tilt table test and recording BP in different positions.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
