on and off loss of appetite..NEED HELP PLEZSE!

Hi,kindly read carefully before answering, I feel going crazy from doctor to another to get a correct diagnosis!
I am woman 36 years old mother of 3 (9, 8 and 22 months).
Last year I was breasfeeding my little one and I experienced sometimes like lighthead or hyperventilation or some feeling of electric current into my vains in whole body with little higher heart rate, it lasts for a minute and goes living me little bit disturbed.

Well, during breastfeeding I was really eating a lot (more than usual) but didn't disturbed me cause my weight is in the normal range but before my son finished his first year I started to have less appetite and I though it's because I less breastfeed him now.

In August 2008 2 days before my mentrual cycle I woke up very low energy, nervous, loss of appetite,fatigue...and these symptoms lasts 2 daus and once I have my menstruation it vanished.

The same senario happened in September 2008 but skipped October.

In November I fet weak and light headed then I had my menstruation but next day it happened the same senarion as before with depressed mood because I thought it's   PMS and doctors said no, so I was struggeling because I am desprate for a diagnosis. And because I fely helpless this time I had loss of appetite for 13 days and then I stopped breastfeeding.

After stopping breastfeeding I started to get these symptoms last days of menstruation and usually stated a day before with a light head aches.

What I have noticed that all symptoms since January has gone but sudden loss of appetite still remain, but I got use to it, it lasts 3 days (without being able to even drink water) the next 2 days started to eat again.

And I noticed recently that any thing upsets me could triger this issue.

This month (February 2009) I got my menstruation and also last 2 days I started to get less appetite but at the same time I got scared for my husband because he wasn't feeling well and immediatly I got nausea and lost my appetite till this minute (12 days), I force myself to drink little bit but can't look at food!!!
I also got white coted tongue this time with bad breath and bitter tast.

I did all tests and all came normal (CBC, glucose, ESR, theroid hormones, and few other hormonale test during menstruation, liver function blood test etc...)

Now the latest doctor I checked with him he said that this is postpartum anxiety!!
When he said this I remember few thing happened to me last year like once I had panic attack for the first time in my life when I lost the road with my kids, and few weeks ago I was in very stressed situation and after that I felt a fluttery flashes in my stomach (one after one) then disappeared after a 2 minutes.

But didn't too much make sence to me because what I know that anxiety is to feel scared for something doesn't exist!

So doctor said that I have an imbalance in the chimicals contributing with hormonal issue (because it was happening before menstruation and now last days of it) and I belive that after these few months of being undiagnosed made me really stressed and anxious!

Doctor gave me ZOLOFT 25 mg / day ,but I am still not convienced that this could be postpartum anxiety related! why this on and off complete loss of appetite!?

I remember that few months ago before these senarios happened I use to eat and suddenly feel my stomach has been blocked but later on everything back to normal!

Why this on and off of loosing appetite? could it be the imbalance of chemicals? so why it's on and off and not persistent?

My weight still normal but when I loose appetite I loose 2 or 3 Kg than it comes back when my appetite is back!.

Please need you to tell me should I trust this doctor?

I feel I am the only case in the world and I am terrified when this happens to me I start to ask myself what if the appetite didn't come back?

Please advice :(
Thank you!

Just forget to tell you that I also thought about hyperacidity and doctor told me it could be sure but since it's triggered when I am worry about something so maybe the cause is anxiety, and as I mentioned that the loss of appetite was one of the symptoms which was accuring 2 days before my menstruation and after i stopped breastfeeding i just got the appetite loss in last few days of my menstruation!!!! weired yes? !

I have no abdomen discomfort just when I loose my appetite i feel nausea sometimes and sometimes just don't want to eat!

Hi Dr. and thank you for your reply.
Actually the doctor was asking me few questions to rule out postpartum anxiety, the first year after delivery I was experiencing sudden light-head and other times like electricity in whole body with little rapide heart rate etc... (I mentioned them in my post).

But as I said that there are symptoms similar to PMS where happening to me since August including loss of appetite and after I stopped breastfeeding I started to get just the loss of appetite.

I don't know what to do because when I loose my appetite it is impossible for me to put anuthing in my mouth and yes I want to believe that it could be hyperacidity but doctor think it's from the anxiety which I got due to the hormonale and chemical imbalance after delivery.

anyway thank you for your answer it's so kind from you!

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
In your case you cannot totally rule out post partum anxiety. It is a strange thing. You will not be aware that you are anxious, yet you are. Many mothers suffer from it. You could try yoga and meditation. Both will help you a lot.

The other possibility is acidity and GERD. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. However I would recommend you see a doctor and take medication under a doctor’s supervision. Avoid heavy meals, during the times you feel hungry. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food. If these tips help you, then make them your routine and you will be fine.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
