on going earlier periods

I am forty three and my period has never had a specific date to come.  It always come a little earlier.  But, since December I notice that it's coming earlier and earlier.  The days span beyween each period,  for the last few months are: 26 days, 19 days, 19days and the last was 17 days.  Today is the 16th day since my last period, I am getting the feeling that it's ready to come again.  I am having just mild cramps and mild backpain and pelvic pain (very mild).  Can anyone tell me what this means.  My last pap smear and blood work was done 9 months ago, and everything was normal except for my cholesterol and blood sugar , which was a little elevated.
I would really like to get your feedback.

You are entering the age group of menopausal women where your estrogen and progesterone levels begin to change. Yes, please see a doctor for a thorough examination and hormone testing.

As one woman to another, who has already gone through menopause, you would find reading a book by Dr. John  Lee.....What A Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause... very informative. I read it and still use it and I am so glad I did. It is written in down to earth language for non medical people to understand what is going on in their bodies. Oh, and if possible  you may want to start reading it before your follow up visit to your doctor so you will be more informed about menopause.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
At forty three with elevated blood sugar and cholesterol, menstrual irregularities can be expected due to a combination of premenopause, improper metabolism of estrogen and progesterone and PCOD.
Please consult a gynecologist for proper evaluation.
Take care!

Hello,
It looks like you have polymenorrhea. Frequent menses (cycle less than 21 days) can occur due to pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted disease, endometriosis, fibroids, cervical polyp, birth control pills, stress, exercise etc. Endometriosis is an important cause and needs evaluation. You have taken the PAP smears but you need a pelvic examination and an ultrasound lower abdomen and uterus as well. Please consult a gynecologist and get it done.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
