Devon I was on 20MG of Valium 4 times a day. Because of panic disorder. With all those symptoms it actually sounds like you're under dosed. 5MG of valium is what I take now. But certain times of the year are difficult for me so the DR. goes from 5mg up to 2x daily to 10MG 3x daily or every eight hours. I've also been on every other Benzo, ativan, xanax, and clonopin. For all the man does is 2mg usually 4x daily. I think if your anxiety is that bad you simply need more medication.
Long term use of valium will do nor harm, albeit it is addictive, and you may feel poorly after ending doseage. I go back when the drug was available in the ER without prescription - you didn't have to even sign for it. No matter how many you take it can't affect the respiratory system. There is no evidence whatsoever that valium causes brain damage, but there is always a one in a million chance. Valium should never have been placed on a schedule one. Physicians are very reluctant to prescribe it today. I cannot diagnose your problems, but valium is unlikely to cause them. You really need a good in-person evaluation by a physician who will take some time with you.
Devon hon, I have been taking 5mg Valium for over 20 years, 3x a day. I'm no young person and female. I was taking it for depression, but eventually it wasn't working. I asked my doctor (a Neurologist) if he would agree to let me try Pristiq since I had read a brochure in his office that fit all my symptoms.. He ok'd it for a 1 month trial and it worked wonders My energy came back, I regained my motivation and just a "feel good" feeling. From what you are describing, as a lay person, I don't believe your symptoms are in any way related to 5mg Valium unless they started right after you first started taking it (like within a few hours or a day). I have severe chronic low back pain and have an implanted pain pump with very strong pain meds in it. As long as my doctors each keep track of what meds I'm taking and the strength, I'm not over medicated. I'm not a doctor, but I've been around for quite awhile and am a great grandmother to 5 beautiful boys! I believe you need to find a very good Neurologist to evaluate your symptoms. Don't wait, do it now or as soon as you can. Ask other doctors or your main care giver physician to recommend someone and even refer you to get you in quicker. You are way too young to have to be living with all this going on! One of my doctors wanted to take me off of the 5 mg Valium becauuse she said it wasn't an anti-depressant and she wanted to put me on Baclofen 10mg. I agreed, but started having tightening in my upper chest which scared me, so I stopped taking it and called her. She now has me on one 10mg Baclofen a day and two 5mg Valium. This combination is working very well for me. I just don't think your symptoms are in any way related to the 5mg Valium, or you would have had severe symptoms right after you first started taking it. Please, see a GOOD Neurologist right away and find out what is really going on. I can't begin to tell you how concerned I am for you and your well being, but I DO believe you can find relief with the right doctor! Don't give up hope and hang in there. I will have you in my prayers and will check back to read any other posts from you. God Bless you, dear. Ann B
