i had surgery oct 17,2008 to have a mass removed from my stomach.  7 days after i starting bleeding from my
wound, on the 10th day i went to get my staples removed. I had a blood clot. my wound came open and  had to be packed for a week.  my wound is still open and I have drainage. and a smell is comming from it.
It has been almost four weeks since my surgery. the doctor said that if it didn't close inone week, the were going
to pack sponge in me to help close. Is this safe.  Getting depressed!!!!

I would have the doc look at it in case there is infection inside. If the strength of the site is compromised a wound can be pulled apart even much later. I once had an abdominal incision abscess and it nearly turned into gangrene. I'd call the doc at least, and if the drainage is not clear but like pus and/or has a bad odor, I would treat it with urgency.
