Lump? Tissue mass?

I don't quite know how i came across this, i guess i was rubbing my neck and playing about with it (whilst i wait for a GP appointment) anyway, just underneath my adams apple i pulled the skin and felt what seems to be 2 - 3 inch long mass of tissue ( i don't think its a muscle ) now i heard GERD can cause cancer.. possible?

Thanks

The post above is similar to my complaints, but my symptoms started in the floor of my mouth and are only on the R side of my throat. I don't have any heartburn symptoms. I have problems swallowing, a sensation like the food isn't going down. But, I don't have evening symptoms and my symptoms increase a great deal with exercise. During exercise, I also get chest pain/wheezing only on the R side of my chest.
I had the endoscope today, which is said to be normal, no sign of irritation, ulcer or any lesions.
Is prilosec really supposed to help my symptoms. Before the endoscope I tried advair inhaler for a week and prilosec for 2 weeks with no change in my symptoms. The Dr said 2 weeks wasn't enough and just do more.
Any other comments/advice?
All comments will be appreciated.
Thanks-

Hello,

In some patients, acid can reflux into the throat causing inflammation of the back of the throat which can lead to pharyngitis, or into the vocal cords, which can lead to laryngitis and hoarseness. Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found.

Severe, long-standing GERD can damage the esophagus and cause a condition known as Barrett's esophagus wherein the normal lining of the esophagus is replaced by a lining more like that of the stomach or intestine. It is thought that this replacement may be an attempt by the body to protect itself from further injury by acid. The risk of esophageal cancer appears to increase significantly in patients with Barrett's esophagus. The only way to diagnose Barrett's esophagus is by endoscopy.

The structure that you pulled must have been a muscle or lymph nodes which are present superficially in the neck. Are you having any symptoms of GERD like heart burns, pain in the left side of chest or nausea or chronic cough?GERD is curable and hence you need not worry that it can cause cancer in otherwise healthy individual.

Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
