Could I be having a long heart attack?

Can a heart attack go on for 10 hours? How can I tell if it's a pulled muscle of heart attack?  I am a 23yr old female, I dont smoke, but I have an echocardiogram every 2 yrs to check my valves as Marfan's syndrom is in my family.  So far it's been good, I'm probably due for one soon.  At 12:30 this afternoon I got a pain in my chest behind my left breast and it is still going at 8pm!  It's scaring me for some reason even though I have chest pain frequently, I usually tell myself it's a pulled muscle but it usually doesnt last this long.  I've had ECG's many times and never anything to show up.  I dont want to waste time going to the hospital for nothing.  Any advice?

I ended up in the ER.  My lungs and heart were checked out (ECG and Chest xray) things looked okay.  It's definately not reflux either, for yrs Dr.s have chalked my chest pain up to heartburn and acid.  The Dr. told me to take Advil as it must be a chest mucle problem.  It was just scary that it shot up into my jaw, and back and it was on the middle but the left side.

Sometimes having anxiety about a specific set of symptoms related to a disease or illness can almost set one up to "experience" those symptoms, despite no evidence that they are real.  It's called psychosomatic.  I've worked with a lot of patients with similar experiences.  We typically take steps to reduce anxiety - such as exercise, relaxation, yoga, and discussing worst case scenarios and the prevalence of such with a certain diesease.  Perhaps you might seek professional help to reduce your overall anxiety regarding your illness.

Other things other that one's heart can cause chest pain.   With Marfans syndrome, the root of the aorta can dilate and cause problems with the Aortic valve in the heart.  The other considertation is the Aorta can dilate and create an aneurym.  Other cause of chest discomfort can be reflux disease, spasm of the esophagus, pneumonia, and gall bladder disease only to nake a few.
