Thallasemia is a blood disorder of which there are several types.   I am not sure the detail of the question you are asking.  A discussion with your hematologist is a good starting point.

Regarding your complaints of defecation problems.  With such rare frequency of bowel movements it is fair to conclude that you are passing brick hard stools.  The first order of business it to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and take a bulking agent.  This will make the stools softer and easier to pass.  The pain and blood is most likely from an anal fissure.  They are very painful and associated with blood on passage of BM.   If your doctor determines that you have a anal fissure they can start you on a special nitroglycerin preparation on the rectum, usually given at night.  Another option is a botxo infection into the muscles around the rectum (much more expensive).  Both of these options decrease the spasm of the anal muscles and decrease the pain and bleeding with an anal fissure.   There are other conditions that can decrease BM frequency depending on one’s medical condition.

I'm glad you got some releif.

You probably better make a trip to the doctor to make sure no prior damage was done. Chronic constipation can cause hemrrhoids which can be very painful or it could be something else entirely. The only way to tell is to have it checked out. Sorry, I know how embarrassing it is but it really needs to be done. It is definitely necessary.

Can I ask, was it the fiber or the mineral oil or both that helped?  You can continue both or one of them daily to prvent any futher problems.

Let us know how you do, OK.

applemint,

You might try to take a couple of tablespoons of mineral oil (found in your local pharmacy) each night. Mix it with a glass of juice. Depending on results you can take up to an ounce once or twice daily without any problems. This makes your stools softer & more oily  therefore easier to pass. It's inexpensive & it works.  You should also see your doctor if any signs of bleeding continues. It's nothing to fool around with.

The key to fiber giving you relief is plenty of water intake. Both the fiber & mineral oil can be used at the same time.

Good Luck & God Bless
