help

I am a 21 year old male, my right testicle retracts to just outside my pelvic bone and sits there with quite a bit of discomfort. It doesnt go all the way inside my pelvis as I can still see and feel it there. When I breath all the way out my testicle drops to the position of the other one. What could be the cause of this??

Hi,
As a matter of fact many a times it becomes obvious in the late pubertal age. But it is not uncommon to patient’s to report this at a later age too.
Do you have any associated symptoms along with this condition? You do mention a vague discomfort that is experienced but as of now I cannot think of any other condition.
Do see a Urologist if the symptoms become worse. If you have any further queries do get in touch with me.

Dr Sylvester

Hi there,
Thanks for your question. During development of the male reproductive organs the testes descend from the abdomen into the scrotum just before birth and the tract is closed thus preventing the testes to ascend back into the abdomen. But at times this tract does not close or approximate well which can lead to the condition described by you. This condition is known as ascended testis. Some patients have a patent fold of peritoneum through which the testis goes up. The condition is rare and very few cases are reported.
This can be treated by a very simple surgery called Orchopexy. Please see an urologist in this regard.
If you have any further queries do get in touch with me.
Regards,
Dr Sylvester
