lack of feeling

I am a male in my early fifties, and for the last six months or so, have had no sensation whatsoever during ejaculation.  I have a normal sex drive, erection & ejaculation, and everything seems fine and normal.  The only problem is that there is no feeling.
Hoping you can help.

Hello,

I am not sure if you were given Ativan for Anxiety with Depression or without it?  But I tried several SSRI drugs and they actually increase feeling and drive.  Some are notorious for delayed ejaculation and decreasing drive.  Paxil increased libido the most for me and a sedative called Remeron.  I never tried the benzo family due to the possibility of addiction. But that is my own experience.

Hi,
Lorazepam has been known to affect sexual function.

"Ativan is known to cause changes in sex drive (also known as libido). While the most common effect of Ativan on sex drive is a decreased sex drive, it is also possible for the medication to cause an increased sex drive.

Ativan and Impotence
Ativan is known to cause impotence in men. Impotence is often defined as a total inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Ultimately, impotence is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Rarely, Ativan can also cause the opposite (sexual arousal).

Ativan and Orgasm Problems
Ativan is known to cause orgasm problems. These problems may include a less satisfying orgasm or an inability to achieve orgasm.

A Summary of Ativan Sexual Side Effects
It is impossible for your healthcare provider to know whether you will develop any of these Ativan sexual side effects. Also, if a person does develop sexual side effects, it is challenging to know whether these problems are caused by the condition or Ativan itself. This is because sexual symptoms are common with conditions that Ativan treats. For example, one-third of people with untreated depression report sexual side effects.

If you develop sexual side effects while taking Ativan, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider. There is treatment that he or she may be able to recommend. Depending on how severe your Ativan sexual side effects are, he or she may also recommend that you adjust your Ativan dosage or try a different anxiety treatment"

Some medications bring about some effects after prolonged or long-term use.

You will need to discuss the possibility of decreasing the dose of lorazepam or switching to another sedative to check whether it helps with the problem.

Thank you for the response.  There are actually no other symptoms at all, nor any conditions or family history of chronic conditions.  And I am not a smoker!  I am happily married, and have always enjoyed a good sex life with my wife.
I have been to a urologist and he is baffled himself.  He did a thorough prostate exam and PSA count, which came back completely normal.
The loss of sensation happened very quickly.  Not a gradual thing.  I am unsure about the pressure with which the semen is ejaculated, but as far as I can tell, everything is functioning very normally.
The only factor that I can think of is that it could be a side effect from a medication.  I have taken Lorazepam for many years, due to restless sleep.  With the medication, I do get a good night's sleep.  I have not increased the dose, or changed patterns at all.  I never considered it a factor, because the loss of sensation did not happen with the onset of taking the medicine, but rather after I had been on the medication for approximately 4 years.
Again, thank you for your response!  If there are any other factors that you could think of, I would sure be interested in them.

Hi,

How is the pressure with which the semen is ejaculated?
Has it also decreased with the loss of sensation?
Was the sensation loss gradual or did it happen abruptly?
Do you have any other comorbid conditions?
Any family history of diabetes, prostatitis, or other neurological disease?

Are you a smoker?

You will need to see your doctor and have a physical examination and specific investigations done to identify any pathology leading to the loss of sensation.

Meanwhile, avoid any strenuous activity that may cause injury to your back.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress
