percentage of kidney function?

My dad has only one kidney and it is at 19% function.  What stage would this be considered?  He is 92 so I am trying to decide what course of action to take.

The last time we were at the Kidney Doctor my Dad told him that he would not agree to dialysis - also my dad has told the doctors and nurses where he lives (an assisted living/nursing facility) that he did not want to go to any more doctors.  Like I said he is 92 and lost his wife (my mom) last december - anyway - he started refusing to eat and we put him on hospice - he also got moved to the skilled nursing unit since his ankles and legs were soooo swollen the skin was splitting - after 3 months his ankles got better though still swollen - but they felt he could be moved to the assisted living dementia unit (he has intermittant dementia - but not bad) -  He also has Parkinsons and Prostate Cancer -  I guess I want to get a better bearing on what to expect and what decisions I will have to make - I may be getting a divorce and have been considering moving out of state and taking my Dad with me (there is no other family where we live now) - thank you for responding -

Hi

Thankfully your father is above the end stage renal failure stage, theoretically. Dialysis or renal transplant is generally not necessary until 10% of kidney function is left. However these percentages are only subjective. The course of action depends on the patient’s condition, other associated problems etc.

So your father’s doctor can judge this best and advice you on the course of action. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
