I had a stent for 18 weeks and I must admit it was the most miserable experience I have ever endured!! Had the stent removed yesterday and having read all the comments here I was really scared to say the least. So much so that when the doctor told me I really panicked. It was a bit uncomfortable and only took a few minutes. So far so good,no problems other than a bit of bleeding and slight discomfort for a short while. Everyone is different please anyone who reads these comment remember this. I have got my life back and it's wonderful
After having a bladder stone 'blasted' and removed as well as a ureteral stone removed, I had to have a stent inserted and 'wear' a catheter for a week. The catheter kept becoming 'blocked' by blood clots, causing bladder pain. When I called the doctor's office to tell him that urine was coming our around the catheter, his nurse kept saying to take more medicine (the one that quiets bladder spasms). Not once in several calls did the nurse inquire if the drainage bag was filling, which it was not. I had to go to the ER to learn the catheter was blocked and needed to be irrigated. If it had been left up to the nurse in the doctors office I could have 'overdosed' on medication and still be urinating around the catheter. One simple question such as, "How much urine has accurmulated in the drainage bag over the last hour or two?" would have let the nurse or doctor know the catheter was blocked and needed to be irrigated.
Several weeks ago I had a ureteral stone removed and a stent implanted. I wish the urologist had told me that anytime I completely emptied my bladder I would experience moderate pain in my abdomen, similar to a kidney stone. I had to call around to several friends who had previously had ureteral stents to learn this is a normal consequence of having a ureteral stent.
I had a stent removed from my left ureter 15 hours ago no pain but have enough pain now so i can't sleep really hurts when lying down took 2 aspirin an hour ago but not helping is this normal
stent removal
I had mine removed yesterday after 3 months of great discomfort. The removal was painless. The doctor used a bit of lavocaine to numb the urethra, and within seconds it was out. It helps that I'm female, I suppose.
But for those who are nervous about removal, no real need to be. I was given antibiotics after the removal to assure that there be no infection.
