Hi,
Under normal condtions the catheter in males is placed inside the penis. It is far more likely that the penis and catheter come in contact with fecal matter.
In the case of a suprapubic catheter it is located between the belly button and penis. It is not as close to the rectum as a penile catheter would be.
I'm not quite sure if that addresses your question.
All the best.
Ron
I'm a little bit confused. A suprapubic tube is placed in your bladder and empties urine. How will that help you with the poop problem?
I'm a 47 y/o male here and for the last 2 years have lived with a supra pubic catheter in place. The procdure of placing the suprapubic was fast with almost now discomfort after the surgery.
I went in for the surgery the early afternoon under a general aneasthetic and was discharged later that afternoon. The reason for this type of catheter placement was due to a neurogenic bladder. Other surgeries of urinary divertion have been considered however I'm not sure what to do. I might just live with the suprapubic for the rest of my life.
All the best,
Ron
