testicle pain 6 months after surgery

I am a 36 yr old male in good health, i was diagnosed with chronic epidydimitus. I had pain right above my right testicle and had trouble bending, sitting, riding a bike, etc. my right testicle also sat high, higher than it should and sometimes receded into my abdomen. I had an epidydemectomy in Aug of 2010 and the pain above my testicle went away after awhile but my testicle is still riding high and is 1/3 larger than the left and is so sore I can barely wash it now 6 months after the surgery (jan 23 2011) its very sensitive and sore since the surgery. Ive been back to my dr twice to get help and had an ultrasound done about 3 months ago that didnt reveal anything, Ive been on 2 different antibiotics, one was Cipro, the dr said the testicle would drop and the pain would subside. it hasnt. any help would be great. thanks, Jeff.

I have been having left testicle pain for decades. After many many doctors, not one can diagnose. One thought is that epiditimitis  caused scar tissue that is pressing on the nerve. One Doctor did say he could cut the nerve to the testicle but, he doesn't take insurance.

Hi Jeff,

I had a simmilar problem prior to 2000. I used to come down with either epididymitis or orchitis every 3 to 4 months requiring hospitalizations being on antibiotics through an IV.
The infections would either be in one, but sometimes in both testicles.

I had been diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder in 1996. I had read an article that males who used to undergo a prostatectomy, also received a vasectomy to prevent infections from spreading to the testicles. In 1999 after we had 4 children, both my wife and I thought that I should have a vasectomy in the hope that it would put an end to the infections.

The vasectomy had complications in the form of a hematomy of the left hemi scrotum. I underwent emergency surgery to get the hematoma removed.
For some reason a small hole in the scrotum never closed. A year after while at the urologist for another problem, I brought up the small hole in the scrotum. After he examined it, I was told that there was nothing to worry about.
About a week later I ended up in the local hospital with a scrotum that looked like a large grapefruit. After having been in for about a week, the scrotum split open and I was sent to a city hospital as an emergency. At about 11:30 the day prior to my birthday, I underwent emergency surgery to have my left, necrotic testicle removed. Due to it being a strep infection, I was in isolation ICU. One of the antibiotics used was Flagyl, this antibiotic was used to treat organisms that don't require oxygen to survive.
I went through having the open scrotum packed with saline soaked gauze and a sitz bath every 4 hours.
Very painful.

Other infections that I have had were treated with Cipro, but in this situation, the Cipro did nothing.

You are best off to be evaluated by possibly another urologist. I'm very well aware of the pain involved. After the vasectomy in 2000, I have had no further problems with the remaining right testicle.

All the best.

Ron
