What dosage of Topamax causes weightloss?

I just started Topamax.  I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg.  I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose.  So, what dose did everyone here have their success?  And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along?  I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking).  PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!  :)

I just started taking Topiramate last Friday. I actually asked my doctor to take me off of Depakote ( I gained 60 lbs) and and requested Topiramate for Mood. The weight loss side effect will be a bonus. I am trying to remain optimism and not look for the negative although I know that there are many possibilities. I am just thankful that I am rid Depakote and on a new path...

When you are bipolar and in manic mood, you eat.  It is not because we want to eat junk food, or more calories than we want to, it's because we are manic.  Should not judge until you walk in others shoes.

My neurologist just put me on 25 mg. Topomax twice a day today for right temporal lobe seizure. He said it would help with my occasional migraines as well. He did not mention hair loss. How common is hair loss and how much hair loss are we talking about here? Eager to see if this dose helps with weight loss. I need to shed about 40 lbs. also someone mentioned it helps with sciatic nerve pain and bulging disc? This drug sounds like a miracle cure for so many things. If it addresses all these issues that I am currently experiencing and been just living with for a multitude of years, sounds like I could be walking on cloud nine in a month or so, just hope it won't affect my memory or hair.

i will tell you my exprience. I was prescribed topamax to add to my phentermine. I was in a really bad car accident in Oct. 2012 and my L5 S1 vertibret broke. bone went through my leg and arm broke in three places. I began Topamax hmmmm March or April 2013, its hard to remember much. But it caused me to yes lose weight and quickly, my drinking slowed to almost nothing, and I thought i was ok. But ppl asked me everyday if i was drunk or on drugs. I slurred, could barely see. always remembered to cook for myself but never ate it se3emed like i would try and couldnt. I couldnt remember anything and could rarely finish a story or get a complete thought out of my mouth. i thought i didnt have any pain but i was just moving through it. everything was blury all the time. I ended up getting to where i saw things. had this horrible feeling of death or evil folling me. I was scared all the time. I had a conversation with a dead girl and almost killed myself. she told me my kids died in my accident and that it wasnt fair i lived (my children were not in my wreck with me). I had horrible dreams when i actually slept. and i slept with an x and ended up losing my fiance in the navy. I do not remember much of this month time frame, thats the worst part..... and one night i thought my daughter was haing a seizure, i called 911. she wasnt doing anything except passing out in the car like a tired 3 year old does. In turn no one wanted to listen because i sounded nuts and ended up accuseing a friend of poisening my daughter with a damn cookie....my mother had to tell me this part cuz i do not remember it. When i realized that night, after having to stay awake after i normally would have been aleep what was the only thing out of my normal routine, (i literaly almost admitted myself into a mental hospital thinking something was wrong with me) i failed out of college that semester. and the night at the hospital lost my children. it isnow july and this was april when i took the meds....I still have not recieved my children back, and have seen several doctors and have verification that it was the topamax that did it to me. but cps doesnt care they think it was really me....idk but i will tell you that topamax, it ruined my completely together life. and i now go to work and home praying that everything will get back together. and i can barley remember things from the 4 weeks i was taking this medication, its almost like puzzle peices. but i will tell you this, my chilren were always taken care of. i just didnt take any time to take care of myself to the point i was faint most times til realizing i hadnt eaten in 4 days......and the taste buds, they dont come back, my hair still falls out, its bad. i have bald spots. the blisters i got while n the meds are scars now. its strange and scry. dont take this medication!!!!

I have been taking topiramate now for 13 days. i took a physical for a job and failed it. the doctor let me know i had the highest blood pressure he had ever seen. 220/140, at the lowest, over 20 minutes of taking it several times. laying down. we discussed my weight, 333 lbs (5ft 11in), past meds that were utter failures, and my grand attempts at dieting and exercise that lead nowhere. he informed me that my blood pressure was too high to be exercising, stroke was too high of a risk for strenuous activities and I should avoid overly elevating my heart rate and stressing my body.
Topamax is used for many many conditions, Spina Bifida, Siezures, Migranes, etc. it causes lowered pain sensations in nerve endings. (i have lower back problems, degenerative disks) and side effects are lowered blood pressure, weight loss.
Beings as I am already bald, and the Numbing sensations are mostly curbed by drinking large amounts of water, which is easy to do sense it is summer time.
so here is hoping that either my blood pressure drops so i can safely exercise and/or i lose weight. but i am definitely loving the curb in the lower back pain.

the first couple days i did have a few dopey moments, but that subsided when i started drinking a lot of water.
and yes, soda is BLECK! :)
