According to the National Institutes of Health, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17061840, the fruit of Euterpe Oleraceae, commonly known as acai, has been demonstrated to exhibit significantly high antioxidant capacity in vitro, especially for superoxide and peroxyl scavenging, and, therefore, may have possible health benefits.
An assay measuring inhibition of reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation in freshly purified human neutrophils showed that antioxidants in acai are able to enter human cells in a fully functional form and to perform an oxygen quenching function at very low doses. Furthermore, other bioactivities related to anti-inflammation and immune functions were also investigated.

Acai, to date, has not been shown as a tool in weight loss. And, I too, must respectfully agree with KalynS, that I believe to lose weight takes a lifestyle change, in small steady increments we can live with, to move towards proper nutrition, exercise and positive thinking. Nutrition to include lean meats, whole grains, fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy with 3 meals and 3 snacks a day tends to keep our metabolism functioning and keep us satiated, so we never get too hungry. Adding moderate exercise, fun things ... like dance, walking, bicycling, tennis, volleyball, badminton, swimming, jumping rope, frisbee, tag, aerobics, pilates, strength training, rowing, paddle boating, hoola-hooping .. anything that gets you to move helps us change our weight and become healthier.
There is no "quick fix" .. but there is an entire community here and ready to support you in losing weight safely and for good if you care to join us, ask questions, and do the work. MedHelp has built many tools to help us from weight, exercise and mood trackers and the new Food Diary with personalized dietary information and reports.
Do hope you will stay with us and wish you all the very best.
I think the Acai is really healthy for you. I drink a vitamin water that has it in it, the antioxidants are great for you!!! I have also heard it helps with digestion. As far as a weight loss method....I really don't know. I am a hard core believer in successful weight loss coming from proper nutrition and exercise.
