Diet Soda?

Ok, so I cut regular soda out of my diet. I normally drink water, diet can iced tea (or fresh) and seltzer. Now my question is.... is diet soda OK in moderation? Like when me and my bf go to a mall, water gets so boring and the fast food places generally never have seltzer water. So therefore I'm forced with diet soda (YUCK). Is it ok just on the weekends? I mean I guess I'm doing something right, I've lost 30.5bs since 9/14 (not even 3 months yet) and still have another 12.5lbs to go by 1/4/09.

Thanks! : )

Barb stated what I was trying to get at.  When I drank diet soda as habit, it fueled my cravings.  But once in awhile, to enjoy places like the mall, it shouldn't be a big deal.

I WISH more places offered seltzer!  You're so right that avoiding different drinks leaves such BORING choices.  I was really excited the last time I was on a plane they had seltzer, I think it's usually for making cocktails but they gave me a can when I asked.  Though that's the only nice thing about flying I can come up with. :)

thanks guys. i never finish all the soda anyways. and when we go to a restaurant or each others house then i have diet ginger ale or seltzer then. its those stupid mall dining areas where its only soda and juice or sugar filled iced tea and that annoys me!

You are ok to drink diet sodas on occassion, but the artificial sweeteners can sabotage a diet, by making you want more sweets.  I drink a diet soda (coke zero) maybe once or twice a month.  The rest of the time I drink green tea (I like jasmine flavored green tea) sweetened with either Stevia or agave nectar, which are both natural sweeteners.  Some large grocery stores carry agave nectar, but I've only ever found Stevia in health food stores; and though it can be rather spendy, I think it's worth it.  I buy it individual packets, so it's easy to bring to work with me, et.

diet dr pepper actually keeps me from being hungry so much so i love it!! But mostly what i am hooked on right is crystal lite peach mango tea!! It is so delicious and only 10 calories and and it has metabolism boost! I am not a bigger drinker of anything during the day so i only has one bottle per day!! I have heard diet coke is a much better option than regular so if youre drinking just on weekends im sure you are fine!!
Wonko-oh man u said unfiltered water oh it grosses me out lol!! Our water here literally taste like dirt!! You cannot drink it you are forced to get bottles!! And when u go to fast food places if they dont filter properly your soda taste dirt too!!

Wow, you'll have to tell us more about your weight loss and how you're doing it!

In response to your Q, I think that sounds very reasonable.  I used to drink diet sodas by the 2-liter, but I quit art. sweeteners last spring.  I find it is easier to control my appetite without them.  Instead, I drink lots of water and iced tea.

But I can relate that some venues only have unfiltered tap water or sweetened (not fresh) iced tea, and that DOES get boring.  Most "sit down" places have real iced tea, but if all they have is the stuff coming out of the soda machine, that's usually not to my liking.

If you do want that occasional non-boring drink, I say diet soda in moderation is a better choice than regular soda.

Hope you come back and tell us more about that 30 lb loss!  We've started group weigh-ins on Sunday if you'd like to join in that activity.  I was losing pretty well starting last spring but am "stuck" and hoping to get back to moving down the scale soon...
