Is it even possible to keep this weight off??

Ok so maybe this is a stupid post, and maybe I'm just really vain.  I've been trying for years to get back down to 125 after a huge weight gain a few years ago when I went through a huge phase of depression were I ballooned up to 165.  I had gotten down to around 140 and stuck there for months, regadless of eating and exorcise habits.

Then I got REALLY sick with an undiegnost stomach problem were I couldn’t keep anything in me for weeks.  It caused me to drop down to 126!!!  It’s been a little over 2 months now and I’m finally back to eating somewhat normal again.  Part of me wants to be happy that I feel well enough to actually eat some things, but a bigger part of me feels like "well I suffered thru hell for the past few months; the least that can come out of it is that I’m near my goal weight."  Though I think that some of the weight loss is probably due to the fact that theres nothing in my intestions...?

So I was just wondering if it’s even physically possible to stay at least close to my goal weight when I go back to my normal eating habits.  I’m 25 and I ate fairly healthy before I became sick and hope to when I start getting well enough again.  Fruits and veggies are to hard on my stomach still.  And I also walk a few miles a day.

Any help would be great... or maybe I’m just crazy.  Thanks!

Welcome to the Weight Loss & Dieting Community.  Thank you for asking the question and please know there are no stupid posts or silly questions.

It is possible to stay at/near your goal weight provided it is within the normal range of weight for your height, age and sex.  If you are below the norm, your body may try to hang on to the calories to promote your health and combat being underweight.  Staying at the weight we want, within a few pounds up or down, is ideal and is done by balancing what we eat compared to what energy we expend.  It is simple physics, what goes in, minus what is used, equals our weight.

Hope you are feeling better soon and that your depression as flown.  Work with your docs and get well .. and when you get the go ahead from your physician, consider slowly adding some fruits (like bananas, pears, mango) and some veggies (green beans, carrots, beets) to your diet and make other healthy food choices throughout the food groups.

You may want to check in here and stay with us for some motivation, exercise, support, recipes and friendship.  Very best wishes ... to your health ..
