How do I break through my Plateau??

I have been dieting for some time now, but I got really serious about it in the last 8 months. I have lost about 40 pounds so far and have been hovering around my current weight. Although, according to charts I've seen, I am at my "ideal body weight" I don't look lean, and so I would like to lose some more weight. But I have been aproximately this weight for 2-3 months now, and nothing I do seems to work. I run and bike regularly and try to eat low fat, healthy meals, but still I stay the same. Any advice for some new aproaches that I should try? Any info would be great!!

Coffeebean,
Shake up your routine somehow.  The body gets very efficient at conserving calories and will often hang onto every ounce it can.

First, be sure you aren't already at a weight that is appropriate for your height and build.
Then look closely at what you are eating, and how much.  You'd be surprised that sometimes people are not eating enough, and will actually have a slower weight loss.  Look at what you are eating--getting enough of all the food groups?

Are you snacking or taking little bites or tastes of extra food during the day?

As wannabenana said, add something different to your exercise.  I used to only do the elliptical for my aerobic exercise, but now switch every time between that, the stairclimber, running on the treadmill, or using the Crosstrainer.  Or sometimes, just plain walking.
Add weights if you are not already doing them.  Consider swimming--excellent exercise!

I have a friend that just recently had the same complaint, and she added weight training and aerobics to her exercise routine and she is starting to lose more weight. Hopefully you have a schedule that will allow you to do this. The thread below this post talks about swimming, so you might want to give that a try , too!
